Colleen is a former professional competitive bodybuilder with an extensive background in fitness, an AFAA certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. Colleen has continuously sought out the the opportunity to share her passion for fitness with others. In 2013 the physical stress of years in the gym brought Colleen to seek out something to heal her body and regain some flexibility and mobility lost through years of heavy weight training. It was at that point that she discovered yoga and immediately fell in love with it. The physicality of the practice soon took a backseat to the spirituality and mental balance that it uncovered within her and her passion grew. She knew that she had to introduce others to all of the benefits of yoga, so in 2015 she took her 200 hour teacher training so that she might share that passion with others. In 2016, in an effort to further delve into the process of yoga as a tool for healing, Colleen completed the Y12SR (yoga for 12 step recovery certification). Colleen was drawn to this method for healing the dis-ease of addiction by the personal impact of having a daughter who was suffering from the effects of the disease. Knowing that the disease of addiction affects not only the addict, but also family and loved ones, and knowing that yoga is a powerful force for healing, it seemed only natural for her. In 2018 Colleen completed an additional 300 hours of YTT with a focus centered on yoga as a tool for healing anxiety and depression and learning to let go of the things that are out of our control. Her final project consisted of a public workshop called “Releasing the Chains that Bind You” and was centered on developing a yoga toolbox to let go of the uncontrollable and develop inner strength.
Colleen teaches at In Bloom Yoga in New Hartford, NY and teaches a variety of classes there including Y12SR, vinyasa yoga, aerial yoga, and yin yoga. Colleen specializes in yoga for empowerment and strength and translating those practices off the mat for use in real life.
