Sonia Shultis

Sonia’s passion for yoga and Nonviolent Communication spurred her vision of opening her own studio in Oneonta, NY called TRIBE YOGA.  She received her first 200 hour yoga teacher training with the Satsang Yoga School in Southwest, VA in 2014. She then took a second 200 hour intensive training in 2017 with the Kunga Yoga School lead by founder Kristin Cooper-Gulak, senior teacher Noelle Whittington, and Sonia’s dear friend and teacher, Nicole Fitzwater Boyle, owner of In Balance Yoga Studio in Blacksburg, VA.  Through the comprehensive training of the Kunga Yoga School, Sonia was introduced to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) that literally changed her life. After her second 200-hour training, Sonia researched opportunities to learn more about NVC.

In December 2017 Sonia attended a 9-day International Intensive Training in NVC through the Center of Nonviolent Communication where she met Grace Bishop.  Their friendship grew outside of the training from making a commitment to virtually meet each week to practice NVC and provide each other support and empathy.  This incredible bond and friendship has grown into their combined vision of integrating NVC and Yoga to create a well rounded and supported experience for students in their practice.  Our highest value is authentic connection through empathic listening and compassionate communication with the self and with others.

Sonia is excited to be partners with Grace in this journey to share NVC + Yoga at Ahimsa and through workshops and retreats in the near future!

She is currently finishing her 300 hour yoga teacher training with the Kunga Yoga School focused on service leadership and yoga lifestyle, but has recently become more encapsulated with the practice of Ayurveda and will continue to pursue more education on this sister science to yoga.
